October 5, 2021 - Natural Gas Bills to Rise – For many Wyoming gas customers bills have increased over the last few months due in large part to the severe natural gas market disruptions that occurred during the February cold weather event that took place last winter. The February extreme weather event caused natural gas prices to spike to unprecedented levels leaving utilities across the country with extraordinary levels of unrecovered gas costs. Since then, the Wyoming Office of Consumer Advocate (OCA) has worked to mitigate the impact of these excessive costs on customers, primarily by spreading the recovery of these costs out over an extended collection period and ensuring that Wyoming utilities do not profit from the collection of those costs.
April 1, 2020 - Office of Consumer Advocate Files Testimony in Wyoming Public Service Commission Investigation into Rocky Mountain Power Integrated Resource Plan - On October 18, 2019 Pacificorp, dba in Wyoming as Rocky Mountain Power (RMP or Company) filed its 2019 Integrated Resource Plan (IRP) with the Wyoming Public Service Commission (PSC) articulating the Company’s vision of its resource mix over the next 20 years. On April 1, 2020 the Wyoming Office of Consumer Advocate (OCA) filed testimony with the PSC outlining its perspective on the Company’s long-term plans. The OCA’s testimony details a number of concerns with three key aspects of Integrated Resource Planning: economics, reliability, and risk.
June 18, 2019 - Office of Consumer Advocate Will Investigate Requested Increase in Black Hills Wyoming Gas Natural Gas Rates - On June 3, 2019, Black Hills Wyoming Gas (BHWG or Company) filed an application with the Wyoming Public Service Commission (PSC) to increase rates across their newly consolidated gas service territory an average of 17.28% to be effective on January 1, 2020. The OCA will devote considerable effort investigating the propriety of the increase, and may propose alternative rates based upon the findings of this investigation.
